Kane Strang
Kane Strang's first album, Blue Cheese, picks up on the rough disaffection of his earlier demo collection, A Pebble And A Paper Crane, which he recorded in a WWII bomb shelter in Germany. Now back in his hometown of Dunedin, New Zealand, Kane spent two curious months alone, housesitting for his parents. Relocated, yet still isolated, Kane composed all of Blue Cheese over those quiet days. Lead-off track "The Web" channels pummeling bass lines punctuated by a twinkling synth that calls upon microscopic pop principalities of restlessness ("Yeah, I met someone else/ Without leaving my little house/ No, I haven't held her yet/ I met her on the internet"). Its abrupt ending parallels Strang's own disconnect. "She's Appealing" weaves day-glo guitar motifs into distant, detached '80s garage pop vocals. "Never Kissed A Blonde" is driven by a slapping delay on both vocals and guitar. Kane never doesn't surprise with his path towards a melody, nor does he miss a hit-on-the-head-obvious-in-retrospect memorable line.
Chain of Flowers
Chain of Flowers is a 5-piece post-punk band based in Cardiff, Wales who have been hailed as one of the finest young post-punk bands to emerge from the UK in years. Comprised of Joshua Smith (vocals), Ross Jones (guitar), Rich Clarke (drums), Daniel Anderson (bass) and Matthew Clements (synths), Chain of Flowers have drawn highly favorable comparisons to bands including The Smiths, Joy Division, Eagulls, Iceage, Ceremony and The Cure.
Since their inception in 2012, the band has been invited to tour and perform with internationally-acclaimed acts including The Fall, Chameleons, Ceremony, A Place To Bury Strangers and Eagulls on the strength of their mesmerizing live performances and superb recorded releases. Chain of Flowers' first self-titled full length was recorded at Wales' legendary Monnow Valley Studios in Rockfield, Monmouth last year, produced by Gothic Pearson and Darren Lawson and mixed by Ben Greenberg (The Men, Uniform), and released on October 16 , 2015 on Alter out of London. CHAIN OF FLOWERS has received rave reviews as well as an unusual degree of airplay on both sides of the Atlantic (including BBC Radio 6 and KEXP in Seattle).
In August 2016, Chain of Flowers completed their first-ever tour of North America, playing to packed out rooms over four weeks, including shows in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Toronto, Montreal, Portland and Seattle. During this run, Chain of Flowers were also invited to tape live in-studio sessions for KEXP in Seattle and Part Time Punks in Los Angeles.
Chain of Flowers will return to N. America in March 2017 for a month of tour dates, including SXSW 2017.
Never Young
Over the last two years Never Young have become a staple of the Northern Californian music scene. Formed in 2014 around the songwriting partnership of childhood friends Christopher Adams and Nikolas Soelter, they've developed a unique, urgent blend of 90's punk combined with an idiosyncratic knack for writing angular pop songs. They've been described as "Sonic Youth, At The Drive In, and My Bloody Valentine having a ménage à trois", an exceedingly tight, hook filled slab of noise.

For Singles Tape II: SoftBank, the quartet leans into their pop inclinations, finding solace in bright melodies and clever structures. There's the immediacy of "Beta Male Erotica" and its shimmering guitars, the simple, chanty refrain of "Soap," and the dense, churning energy of "Gasoline Aphrodisiac," ending in the climactic declaration, 'and I like it', repeated over and over before cymbals crash and scraping guitars conclude. The five-song EP was recorded in San Francisco at Ruminator Audio with Monte Vallier (Wax Idols, Weekend) with production aid from Shaun Durkan of Weekend. Singles Tape II: SoftBank will be released on October 14, 2016 via Father/Daughter Records.
